St. Petersburg City Plaza, Florida

The City of St. Petersburg Civic Plaza is nestled in the heart of St. Petersburg’s waterfront cultural attractions between the Progress Energy Center for the Arts Parking Garage, the Mahaffey Theater, and the new Salvador Dali Museum. The Plaza features landscaped terraces, picnic areas, and gathering areas used for community festivities, shows, and other events.

With the addition of the Salvador Dali Museum, the City of St. Petersburg needed new wayfinding signage in The Plaza in order to move foot traffic smoothly between the parking garage, the Mahaffey Theater and the Dali Museum. It was essential that the signage was able to resist weathering from exposure to saltwater, natural elements, and vandalism.

Avalon Sign Solutions provided an exterior wayfinding package to fit the city’s budget and timeline. The signage package presented The Plaza with a look that seamlessly integrated with the Dali Museum’s signage (also provided by Avalon Sign Solution). Signage in The Plaza was constructed of tough cast aluminum, clear coated to shield against the seaside elements. Signs used a mounting system designed to deter vandals from deconstructing components.

Avalon Sign Solutions worked with Aude & Associates and City of St. Petersburg architects to design the materials and dimensions of the signage. The final wayfinding signage package has aided in the flow of pedestrian traffic, providing visitors with clear paths to their final destinations near the plaza.
